Asia Dowtin

Asia Dowtin is an Assistant Professor of Urban Forestry in the Department of Forestry at Michigan State University (MSU), part of the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. She holds a PhD in Geography (2018), MS in Climatology (2012), and BS in Meteorology (2009) from the University of Delaware and SUNY Oneonta. Her research focuses on urban hydrology, nutrient cycling, and ecosystem services, aiming to optimize urban forest management for climate resilience and water resource protection.

Key projects include the Urban Forestry Stakeholder Survey and collaborations on hybrid green-gray stormwater management. She emphasizes stakeholder engagement, particularly in underserved communities, and has contributed to initiatives like the MSU Sustainable Wood Recovery Program. Dowtin’s work bridges science and policy, influencing urban planning and natural resource conservation strategies.

Her research outputs span topics like urban canopy impacts on runoff reduction, nitrogen dynamics in fragmented forests, and tree diversity assessment tools.
