Dr. Jason T. Ortegren is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of West Florida's Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. His research spans climatology, meteorology, and environmental science, focusing on tropical cyclones, drought amelioration, urban temperature trends, and climate-human health linkages.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Geography, University of North Carolina at Greensboro
- M.S. in Geography, University of North Carolina at Greensboro
- B.S. in Geography, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
His work explores paleoclimatology, dendrochronology, and freshwater resource dynamics, with publications in top-tier journals like Journal of Climate and Agricultural and Forest Meteorology. He directs the Tree Ring Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory (TRAIL), investigating forest ecology and urban canopy benefits.
Current teaching responsibilities include courses in Weather & Climate, Advanced Climatology, Climate Change, and Urban Planning. The lab's research integrates climate variability analysis with ecological responses, emphasizing Southeastern U.S. hydroclimate and North Atlantic climate linkages.
