Ashraf M. Salama is a Chair Professor in Architecture at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, where he leads the School of Architecture. With over 25 years of academic leadership, he previously served as the Founding Head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Qatar University (2009-2014). His work integrates architectural education, sustainable design, and urban transformations, with a focus on the Gulf region and global contexts.
Professor Salama's research explores architectural pedagogy, human-environment interactions, urban traditions, and sustainable development. His recent projects include major studies on housing typologies in multicultural Gulf societies and urban environment qualities in emerging metropolises, funded by Qatar National Research Fund grants exceeding £1.25 million. He advances critical frameworks for evaluating built environments and promotes cross-cultural design approaches.
