Ashraf Ahmed is an Associate Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, specializing in constitutional law, election law, and administrative law. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University (2022), a J.D. from Yale Law School (2019), an M.Phil. from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (2012), and an A.B. from Harvard College (2011). His research integrates political philosophy, democratic theory, and intellectual history to explore legal argumentation, representation, equality, and freedom in public law.
His current projects address the conceptual foundations of election law and the historical roots of presidential primacy in administrative law. Prior work includes studies on constitutional norms, presidential power, and anti-majoritarian trends in election law. Ahmed has consulted for Demos and served as a graduate organizer for the United Auto Workers.
He has taught courses such as Constitutional Law, Torts, and Introduction to American Law. His publications appear in top journals like the Harvard Law Review and Michigan Law Review. Ahmed joined Columbia Law School as an academic fellow and lecturer in 2020, becoming a tenured Associate Professor in 2022.
