Ashley Walls White

Dr. Ashley Walls White is the Chair and Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Belmont Abbey College (BAC). She teaches courses such as Algebraic Geometry, Number Theory, and Math History, with a particular passion for Math for Liberal Arts and Abstract Algebra. Her research focuses on Lie and Leibniz Algebras, Algebraic Geometry, and Algebraic Topology, alongside exploring algebraic applications in music and dance composition.

Dr. White holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Philosophy (2011), an M.S. in Mathematics (2014), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics (2017), all from North Carolina State University. She has published work on algebraic structures and interdisciplinary STEM-arts education.

Her research emphasizes the interplay between mathematics and the arts, as seen in her 2017 paper on STEM and arts integration. Despite her academic rigor, she is known for making math accessible and enjoyable, embodying Einstein’s quote: “Everything should be as simple as possible, but no simpler.”
