Ashley Thrasher

Ashley Thrasher is an Associate Professor in the Athletic Training Program at Western Carolina University (WCU), located within the School of Health Sciences, College of Health and Human Sciences. She has been a faculty member since 2016 and focuses on professional socialization, transition to practice for new athletic trainers, and innovative educational techniques. Her teaching interests include shoulder/hip evaluation, therapeutic interventions, evidence-based practice, and biomechanics.

Dr. Thrasher holds an EDD from Ball State University, an MS from Western Michigan University, and a BA from Anderson University. Her research emphasizes the professional development of early-career athletic trainers, clinical education strategies, and mentorship programs. Notable contributions include studies on onboarding processes, immersive clinical experiences, and the use of visual arts in medical education.

She received the 2017 Athletic Training Education Journal Award for Outstanding Original Research. Her work often addresses challenges faced by newly credentialed professionals, stakeholder perspectives in clinical integration, and the optimization of educational curricula. Dr. Thrasher’s research bridges theory and practice, aiming to enhance both clinical competency and workforce retention in athletic training.
