Ashley Schubert serves as a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of New Hampshire, teaching undergraduate courses including Global Perspectives: Introduction to Anthropology, World Archaeological Cultures, and Adventures in Archaeology since 2019. She is completing her Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of Michigan, where she previously earned her M.A. after obtaining a B.A. from Wake Forest University.
Her research program bridges archaeological investigation and contemporary material culture studies through two major projects. Her dissertation research employs geophysical remote sensing and targeted excavations in the Appalachian Summit of North Carolina to analyze how pre-Columbian Native American communities during the late Pisgah period (AD 1200-1600) adopted and modified Mississippian practices. Concurrently, her work with the Undocumented Migration Project examines U.S. Border Patrol material traces and their implications for power asymmetries in migrant experiences along the Mexico-U.S. border.
Dr. Schubert's teaching portfolio demonstrates consistent engagement with core anthropology curricula, having instructed over 20 course sections between 2019-2025 including specialized topics in Native North American archaeology and human evolution. Her participation in the multi-year Undocumented Migration Project reflects applied anthropological commitment to contemporary migration issues through material culture analysis.
