Professor Ashley Mellert is an Assistant Professor and Principal Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Charleston, WV. She holds an M.P.A.S. from the University of Charleston and a B.S. in Athletic Training (Summa Cum Laude) from Emory & Henry College. Her research interests include mental health, pharmacogenomic applications in psychiatry, and clinical education. She has presented at conferences such as the West Virginia Association of Physician Assistants, discussing topics like pharmacogenomic testing and precepting strategies. Mellert is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Associates and actively contributes to organizations like the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. In addition to her full-time academic role, she maintains part-time clinical work in outpatient psychiatry. Her teaching focuses on enhancing students' clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills through simulated patient cases.
