Ashley Hamilton serves as a Lecturer and Assistant Director of Student Support in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies (KRSS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She also oversees all practicums and internships as the Director of Field Education. Her roles include academic advising, curriculum development, and student support within the therapeutic recreation program.
Dr. Hamilton is pursuing a PhD in Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies while holding an MS in Recreation & Sport Management (Therapeutic Recreation specialization) and a BA in History from Valdosta State University. Her research focuses on organizational behavior, professional identity formation, and group dynamics within therapeutic contexts.
Before academia, she worked as a clinical specialist in recreational therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility. She teaches courses such as Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation, Program Development, and internship supervision. Her work integrates practical experience with academic rigor to prepare students for careers in healthcare and community settings.
Hamilton is actively involved in departmental initiatives, including field education coordination and collaboration with community partners. She balances her professional responsibilities with family life, enjoying outdoor activities like camping and hiking with her husband and two sons.
