Ashley Elizabeth Jones is an Associate Professor in the School of Art + Art History at the University of Florida's College of the Arts. She holds a B.A. from Grinnell College and a Ph.D. from Yale University. Her research focuses on European and Mediterranean art from Late Antiquity to the early Middle Ages, examining material culture, imperial iconography, and ideological traces of Rome.
Dr. Jones's work specializes in portraiture, imperial art reception, and the symbolism of the body. Her current book project investigates numismatic jewelry in Late Antiquity, exploring how coin-mounted imperial portraits functioned as protective or amuletic objects. New research examines representations of gemstones in medieval texts and the material foundations of salvation narratives.
