Ashley D. Aaron is a Lecturer at San Francisco State University (SFSU), affiliated with both the Department of Africana Studies and the Department of Race and Resistance Studies within the College of Ethnic Studies. She has been teaching there since 2011. Her academic background includes a B.A. in History of the Americas from Mills College and an M.A. in Ethnic Studies with an Africana Studies emphasis from SFSU.
Her research and teaching focus on Global Black liberation movements, anti-racist resistance, and the histories of marginalized communities, particularly Black women's struggles against systemic violence. She emphasizes education as a tool for liberation, inspired by Audre Lorde's philosophy that education can incite transformative change.
Aaron combines over a decade of experience in education, the arts, and program development with her academic work, reflecting a commitment to social justice rooted in ancestral and historical legacies. She teaches courses such as RRS 240: All Power to the People and AFRS 204: Black Creative Arts, integrating interdisciplinary perspectives into her pedagogy.
