Ashley Craig

Ashley Craig is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Research School of Economics at the Australian National University (ANU), where he also serves as Chair of the R.G. Menzies fellowship committee and book review editor at the Economic Record. He runs the General Seminar series at ANU Research School of Economics and holds affiliations with the Office of Tax Policy Research at the University of Michigan, the CESifo Research Network, the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), and the ANU Tax & Transfer Policy Institute.

Dr. Craig received his PhD in Economics from Harvard University in 2019 and his undergraduate degree from the University of Sydney. Prior to joining ANU, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Department of Economics and worked as an economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia.

His research spans Public Economics and Labor Economics with particular focus on human capital investment, taxation, inequality, education, and discrimination. His work employs both empirical and theoretical approaches to study policy design for correcting market failures and promoting equity. Recent research includes analyses of tax knowledge and manipulation, gender bias in interviews, school discipline reform, and charitable giving behavior.

Dr. Craig's research has been published in top economics journals including The Economic Journal and Management Science, with working papers disseminated through IZA Discussion Papers. His work has received coverage in major media outlets including ABC Radio, Chalkbeat, and Fordham.

His current research projects include 'The Role of Australian Public Policies in Household Financial Well-Being Across the Lifecycle' as Principal Investigator. He has collaborated with researchers from institutions worldwide and serves as a CES Visiting Scholar at LMU Munich's Center for Economic Studies.
