Ashley Casovan is an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration and serves as Executive Director of the Responsible AI Institute (RAII). She specializes in responsible AI governance, data policy, and open government frameworks. Previously, she led Canada’s national responsible AI policy as Director of Data and Digital in the Government of Canada.
Her professional roles include membership in key global organizations: OECD’s AI Policy Observatory Network of Experts, the World Economic Forum’s Global AI Action Alliance (chair of its Responsible AI Certification Program), and the Executive Board of CEIMIA (Montréal’s AI expertise centre). She also advises the UN’s IFIP/IP3 Global Industry Council and contributes to ISO, IEEE, and OCEANIS standards bodies.
Ashley’s research focuses on ethical AI implementation, equitable technology systems, and cross-sector collaboration. Her work bridges public and private sectors to mitigate AI risks while advancing socially responsible innovation. Recognitions include Future of Good’s Young Impact Leader (2022) and CogX’s Global Leadership Award.
She actively advises governments and organizations worldwide on AI policy, having contributed to the US Department of Defense and Canada’s AI Strategy Council. Her academic engagement emphasizes educating future leaders on governance frameworks for emerging technologies.
