معرفی
Asher Albertson, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Washington University in St. Louis, where he is part of the Section of Neurocritical Care and affiliated with the Hope Center for Neurological Disorders. His research focuses on molecular, cellular, and network mechanisms of cerebral recovery after severe injury, with a special interest in the relationship between normal aging and stroke.
Education
- Fellowship: Neurocritical Care, Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, 2020
- Residency: Neurology, Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, 2017
- Medical Degree and PhD in Neurobiology: University of Alabama at Birmingham, 2013
Research Interests
Dr. Albertson's laboratory investigates the molecular, neuronal, and network drivers of injury and recovery after ischemic brain injury, with the goal of developing therapeutic interventions to improve outcomes after stroke. Specific areas of interest include:
- The impact of aging on stroke recovery
- Altered excitation/inhibition balance in injury and recovery
- Structural plasticity in cortical remapping
- Clinical applications of EEG in brain injury
- Network disruption and epigenetic changes in stroke and aging
Research Overview
Dr. Albertson's research spans from basic molecular and cellular neuroscience to clinical studies in neurocritical care. His recent work includes studies on aging and stroke, cortical network changes, and the application of single-cell analysis in cerebrovascular research. He uses a variety of techniques including rodent models, histology, viral gene transfer, chemogenetics, and widefield calcium imaging.
Laboratory and Collaborations
Dr. Albertson leads a laboratory focused on cerebral recovery after injury and maintains active collaborations with other members of the Washington University neuroscience community. His translational research involves using clinical EEG to understand cortical behavior after stroke and predict outcomes in critically ill patients.
