Arzu Ozkal is a Professor of Graphic Design at San Diego State University (SDSU), where she holds a faculty position within the College of Arts and Letters. Born in Turkey and based in San Diego, her work bridges art, design, and research, emphasizing collaboration and inclusivity in addressing social and cultural issues. She earned her M.F.A. from the University at Buffalo, SUNY, and a B.F.A. from Bilkent University. Her research explores women’s cultural networks, avant-garde art movements, and contemporary media practices.

Her research interests focus on global cultural production, particularly Turkish women’s social dynamics and diasporic cultural exchange. Notable works include Cabaret Voltaire: Fluxus West (2022), examining mail art in San Diego, and Gün: Women’s Networks: Turkey (2013), which explores women’s social gatherings and their role in cultural activism. Her work has been exhibited internationally and published through SDSU Press.
Her contributions to feminist art and cultural studies highlight intersectional narratives, leveraging art to foster civic engagement and gender equity. She collaborates with artists and scholars to document underrepresented cultural traditions, such as the gün gatherings, blending craft, digital media, and storytelling.
Labs/Teams: Her projects involve interdisciplinary collaborations with artists and researchers, notably the Gün initiative, a networked platform for Turkish women’s cultural production.
