Associate Professor Arvin Kumar Damodaran is the Head of Randwick Clinical Campus at the School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW Medicine and Health. He is a rheumatology specialist practicing at Prince of Wales Hospital and in private practice while maintaining active roles in medical education research and teaching. He graduated from UNSW Medicine in 1996 and has since contributed extensively to medical education, competency-based training, and rheumatology clinical research.
His research focuses on medical education systems, including trust dynamics in clinical teaching, competency assessment frameworks, and improving healthcare access for marginalized populations. Key interests include anti-oppression education, interprofessional team training, and curriculum design for competency-based medical education. He has pioneered initiatives like the Randwick Interprofessional Educators (RIPE) simulation program to enhance team-based care.
His recent work explores social justice in healthcare education, patient experiences in rheumatology care, and clinical challenges like VEXAS syndrome. He actively publishes in medical education and rheumatology journals, contributing to global discussions on entrustment models, pandemic-era training adaptations, and improving healthcare equity through curriculum reforms.
