Arup Sarkar is a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, affiliated with the Quantum Materials Dynamics group led by Prof. Alessandro Lunghi. His current research focuses on quantum materials and dynamics, building on prior work on interfacial charge recombination in perovskite solar cells. Previously, he held postdoctoral roles at the University of Chicago (2021–2024) under Prof. Laura Gagliardi and at the Max Planck Institute (2023–2024) in the Organic Electronics group. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (2015–2021), specializing in computational methods for magnetic systems using ab initio and DFT approaches.
Education includes a Bachelor's (2012) and Master's (2014) in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta. His research spans multi-configuration pair-density functional theory (MC-PDFT), electronic band structure calculations of metal-organic frameworks, and spin-Hamiltonian parameters in single-molecule magnets. He has contributed to advancing theoretical methodologies for magnetic and energy materials.
No specific awards are listed, but his academic trajectory reflects strong research engagement. He has collaborated across institutions and transitioned seamlessly between experimental and computational studies in materials science.
