Aruna Sharma is an Adjunct Lecturer at Stony Brook University's Department of Asian and Asian American Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Music from Rajasthan University, Jaipur, and has an extensive background in classical music performance and composition. With training from renowned scholars like Ustad Jamal Khan and Professors R.C.S. Nadkrni and Sudha Srivastav, she has established herself as a leading figure in Indian classical music.
Her career includes solo performances across India and internationally, including the UK, Canada, the Middle East, and the U.S., alongside radio and television appearances. She has released multiple compact discs and published three books on music, including a collection of original compositions co-created with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Dr. Sharma received the 'SURMANI' title from Sur-Singar-Parishad, Mumbai, and a 2011 research fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Music.
Her research focuses on traditional Indian music preservation, composition, and its cultural intersections. Teaching spans academic and performance contexts, reflecting her commitment to bridging scholarly and artistic domains.
