Arun Maji is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky. His research focuses on modular drug design targeting infectious diseases, particularly fungal pathogens. He holds a Ph.D. in synthetic chemistry from IIT Bombay (2018) and completed postdoctoral work at UIUC under Prof. Martin D. Burke, where he discovered SF001, a next-generation antifungal with reduced renal toxicity.
Education:
- Ph.D., Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (2018)
- M.Sc., Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
- B.Sc., Presidency College Kolkata
Research interests emphasize antifungal drug discovery using structural biology, computational modeling, and pharmacological profiling. Key innovations include mechanism-based design of renal-sparing antifungals and immune-interactive therapeutics. His work has led to novel C–H functionalization methods and antifungal agents addressing drug resistance.
Recent publications highlight advancements in polyene antifungals, anion-selective molecular prosthetics, and C–H activation strategies. He maintains an active lab focused on translating chemical innovations into clinical solutions for infectious diseases.
