Arun Agrawal is the Samuel Trask Dana Professor at the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on the politics of international development, institutional change, and environmental conservation.

Agrawal's work critically examines indigenous knowledge, community-based conservation, common property systems, population resources, and environmental identities. He coordinates the International Forestry Resources and Institutions network and has conducted research in central/east Africa and South Asia.
He has served as editor-in-chief of World Development since 2013, with recent publications in journals like Science, PNAS, and Conservation Biology. Prior to the University of Michigan, he held teaching/research roles at Yale, University of Florida, McGill University, UC Berkeley, and Harvard.
