Artúr Beke

Dr. Artúr Beke, a Hungarian obstetrician-gynecologist, anesthesiologist, and clinical geneticist, is affiliated with Semmelweis University’s Faculty of General Medicine. He played a pivotal role in curriculum reform during his undergraduate years, transforming the trimester system into a semester structure and introducing exams in clinical subjects. He contributed to establishing the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care and pioneered epidural anesthesia at his clinic.

His research spans Obstetric Anesthesia, Prenatal Diagnostics, and Clinical Genetics. He developed computer programs for Genetic-Ultrasound-Fetopathological analysis and authored 255 publications, including 7 books and 53 book chapters. His 2022 book Genetic background of gynecological diseases and its 2024 open-access edition systematize genetic factors in rare gynecological conditions.

Scientific leadership includes:

• Treasurer of the European Association of Perinatal Medicine (2024)
• Member of the UEMS Clinical Genetic Section and Multidisciplinary Joint Committee for Rare Diseases

He supervised over 20,000 genetic amniocentesis procedures and 42 trainees in epidural anesthesia. His work on peripudendal blocks reduced the need for episiotomies, and he integrated pain relief into obstetric protocols without requiring bed rest.
