Arthur Lewbel is the Barbara A. and Patrick E. Roche Professor of Economics at Boston College. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S. from MIT. His research focuses on econometrics, consumer demand analysis, and collective household models. He has published extensively in top journals like the American Economic Review and Review of Economic Studies.
Key awards include an honorary doctorate from the University of Southern Denmark (2024), Honorary Life Membership in the International Jugglers’ Association (2023), and fellowships from the Econometric Society. His work bridges econometric theory and applied microeconomics, addressing topics such as measurement errors, social networks, and household resource allocation.
Lewbel’s recent research includes studies on inefficient cooperation in households, social network models with link misclassification, and identification in triangular systems without instruments. He also explores peer effects in consumption and utility needs in India. His NSF-funded projects include analyzing social networks with unreported links (2019).
He is a co-author of When Balls Collide: Understanding the Skill of Juggling (2018) and contributes to public outreach via media features in Scientific American and ESPN. His teaching focuses on econometric methods, consistently earning high student ratings.
