معرفی
Arthur L. Weltman is Professor of Kinesiology in the School of Education and Human Development and Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia, directing both the Exercise Physiology Core Laboratory and Applied Physiology of Exercise Laboratory.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, 1976
- M.A., University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, 1974
- B.A., City University of New York-Queens College, 1973
Research Focus: Weltman investigates acute/chronic exercise interventions for clinical populations, specializing in ghrelin-mediated vascular responses in obesity, exercise protocols for postmenopausal women, intermittent muscular exercise in heart failure, and cardiorespiratory fitness in diabetes. His NIH-funded $3M study develops age-appropriate exercise regimens for heart failure patients.
Scientific Recognition:
- 2025 Citation Award from the American College of Sports Medicine for significant contributions to sports medicine and exercise science
Mentorship and Funding: Weltman has secured major NIH grants including a current $3 million award for heart failure research. He mentors doctoral students in kinesiology programs, with former advisee Laurie Wideman Gold now holding a distinguished professorship at UNC Greensboro. His collaborative approach involves medicine, sports science, and clinical physiology teams.
Research Infrastructure: He leads dual laboratories conducting translational research on exercise physiology, with facilities supporting vascular function testing, metabolic assessments, and clinical exercise interventions for diverse patient populations.
