Arthur Gautier

Arthur Gautier is an Associate Professor at ESSEC Business School and holds the ESSEC Philanthropy Chair. He is also the Associate Dean in charge of Chairs since September 2024. He teaches at ESSEC's Grande Ecole and Executive Education programs. His research focuses on philanthropy, corporate philanthropy, and hybrid practices such as impact investing and shareholder foundations. He earned a Doctorate in Management Sciences from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (2009) and a Master in Management from Essca School of Management (2005).

Research Interests: Gautier studies the emergence and institutionalization of philanthropy, corporate philanthropy, and hybrid practices combining multiple logics. His work integrates organizational, sociological, psychological, and historical perspectives. Key themes include impact investing, crowdfunding, and the role of nonprofits in corporate strategies.

Teaching & Academic Service: Gautier teaches courses on impact investing, collaborative economics, and philanthropy strategy. He co-organizes academic conferences like the European Research Network on Philanthropy and serves on editorial and review boards for journals such as Journal of Business Ethics and Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly.

Professional Activities: He has held roles including Executive Director of the Philanthropy Chair (2014–2023) and Academic Director of the French Fundraising Certificate (2016–present). He contributes to initiatives like the MBA Impact Investing Network & Training (MIINT).

Labs & Teams: Gautier leads research through the SEPHI doctoral seminar (co-organized with EM Lyon and HEC Liège) and contributes to ESSEC's strategic philanthropy initiatives.
