Arpita Ray is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut (Storrs campus), based at the Waterbury campus. She holds an affiliation within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on cancer biology, specifically investigating unregulated cellular division and the molecular mechanisms governing cell cycle checkpoints.
- Education: PhD from SUNY Downstate Medical Center; Postdoctoral Training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai
Research emphasizes understanding how loss of cell cycle control contributes to cancer through analysis of cyclin-dependent kinase regulation and tumor suppressor proteins like p27Kip1. Key findings include dual modes of p27Kip1's inhibitory functions and posttranslational modification effects on its activity.
Publications focus on molecular mechanisms linking cell cycle dysregulation to oncogenesis, with work appearing in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Her research bridges basic cell biology with clinical implications in cancer therapy.
