Arnhild Leer-Helgesen is an Associate Professor at the University of Agder's Department of Global Development and Planning. Her research focuses on global development, Latin American studies, refugee integration, gender and digitalization, and religion's role in development. She leads projects like 'Gender and Digitalization across context' (Norhed II, 2021–2026), collaborating with Makerere University and the University of Dar es Salaam. She chairs the Norwegian Association for Development Research (NFU).
Her research explores themes such as refugee integration in Norwegian municipalities, religion’s intersection with development in Bolivia and Guatemala, and sustainability in early education. Notable publications include Negotiating Religion and Development: Identity Construction and Contention in Bolivia (2020) and articles in The Ecumenical Review and Mission Studies.
Leer-Helgesen teaches global development studies and Latin American studies. She has contributed to policy discussions on refugee employment strategies and the role of international aid in education quality.
