Dr. Arnel Aguinaldo is a Professor of Kinesiology and Founding Director of the PLNU x Padres Biomechanics Laboratory at Point Loma Nazarene University. He has been a full-time faculty member since 2018, previously serving as an adjunct and part-time instructor at PLNU (2013–2018) and San Diego State University (2005–2015). His research focuses on baseball biomechanics, footwear research, gait analysis, and sports injury prevention.
- Ph.D., Health and Human Performance, Concordia University Chicago
- M.A., Biomechanics and Athletic Training, San Diego State University
- B.S., Bioengineering, University of California San Diego
Dr. Aguinaldo’s research explores biomechanical factors in sports performance and injury risk, including energy flow in pitching, markerless motion capture validation, and the impact of body composition on joint kinematics. His work bridges academic research and practical applications through partnerships like the PLNU x Padres Biomechanics Laboratory.
His publications highlight trends in
- Baseball pitching mechanics
- Energy transfer dynamics
- Joint load assessment
- Markerless motion capture systems
- Gait and footwear biomechanics
- Elbow injury prevention
Scientific honors include
- Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (2024–present)
- Best Paper Award, Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society (2003)
- Major League Baseball Grant Recipient (2005–2008)
- U.S. Department of Defense Contract Award (2012)
Dr. Aguinaldo founded the PLNU x Padres Biomechanics Laboratory (2023) and has served as Director of the Kinesiology Biomechanics Lab at PLNU since 2018. He is actively involved in community initiatives through organizations like Compassion International and Eastlake Church.
