Norwegian University of Science and Technologyمعرفی
Arne Anderson Stamnes is a Researcher in archaeological geophysics at the Department of Archaeology and Cultural History, NTNU Science Museum. He holds an MA in predictive modeling for agricultural settlements in the Early Iron Age, an MSc in Archaeological Prospection from the University of Bradford, and a PhD from NTNU on applying geophysics to Norwegian archaeology.
His current research includes the PastCoast project (2021–2024), a collaboration with the National Museum in Copenhagen and Aarhus University to study resilience in prehistoric coastal environments using geophysical surveys, GIS modeling, and paleolandscape analysis. This project is funded by the Research Council of Norway's International Mobility Grant.
Stamnes specializes in geophysical methods (e.g., GPR, magnetometry), GIS modeling, and agrarian landscape analysis. His work spans Scandinavia and beyond, including projects in Denmark, Louisiana (USA), and the UAE. Key contributions include methodological advancements in non-invasive prospection and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural heritage management.
His publications focus on archaeological geophysics applications, such as surveys at Bodøsjøen, Austrått Manor, and Viking-age burial mounds. He collaborates extensively with institutions like NTNU, Aarhus University, and the National Museum of Denmark. Recent work integrates field surveys with digital tools to analyze human-environment interactions in coastal and mountainous landscapes.
