Arminda Suli serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at Brigham Young University's College of Life Sciences, where she conducts research on neural circuit development using zebrafish models and teaches Developmental Biology (PDBIO482).
Her educational background includes a PhD in Neurobiology and Anatomy from the University of Utah (2007) and a BS in Microbiology from Brigham Young University (1999).
Dr. Suli's research program investigates genetic and molecular mechanisms of neurocircuit formation with two primary focuses:
- Development and innervation of mechanosensory hair cells in the lateral line system, essential for hearing, balance, and environmental sensing in aquatic vertebrates
- Formation of midbrain neurons that integrate visual, auditory, and somatosensory inputs to coordinate motor responses, with implications for autism and dyslexia
Her laboratory employs optogenetic techniques and zebrafish genetics to study these processes, maintaining active membership in key professional societies including the Society for Neuroscience (since 2003), Society for Developmental Biology (since 2015), and International Zebrafish Society (since 2018).
