Armin Falk

Armin Falk is a Professor of Economics at the University of Bonn since 2003 and Director of the Bonn Laboratory for Experimental Economics (BonnEconLab) since 2004. He is affiliated with prominent institutions, including the IZA Institute of Labor Economics, Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). His research focuses on behavioral and experimental economics, addressing topics like moral behavior, climate change, inequality, and early childhood development. Falk has held leadership roles such as CEO of the briq Institute on Behavior & Inequality (2016–2023) and serves as an IP Leader at the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) since 2013.

Education includes a PhD in Economics (summa cum laude) from the University of Zurich (1999) and a Habilitation (Venia legendi) in Economics from the same institution (2003). He also holds advanced degrees from the University of Cologne, including a BA-equivalent in Philosophy and History (1991) and an MA-equivalent in Economics (1994).

Falk’s work emphasizes the interplay between markets, institutions, and human behavior. His recent studies highlight global support for climate action, the impact of unfair pay on health, and the malleability of moral preferences. He has been recognized with major awards, including the Leibniz Prize (2009), Yrjö Jahnsson Award (2011), and ERC grants (2008, 2015). His research has been featured in leading journals like Science, Nature Climate Change, and Journal of Political Economy.

He has advised on policy matters related to climate change, education, and labor markets. His mentoring initiatives, such as the briq Family Panel and 'Balu und Du,' aim to reduce socioeconomic inequalities in education. Falk collaborates widely, participating in global research networks and contributing to public debates via media platforms and podcasts.
