Prof. Armando N. Meier is a Professor of Health Economics at the University of Basel, leading the Health Economics Meier research group and co-directing the Basel Center for Health Economics. He holds a Senior Visiting Fellowship at the London School of Economics. His research focuses on health economics, behavioral economics, public policy, and education economics, leveraging large datasets, experiments, and machine learning. He has published in top journals such as Nature, Science, and American Economic Journal.
Meier earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Basel, with research stays at Columbia University, the University of Chicago, and Stanford University. He previously served as a Principal Researcher at the University of Chicago and a Senior Researcher at the University of Lausanne. His work explores topics like vaccination incentives, peer effects, mental health, and tobacco policy.
Teaching health economics, he contributes to undergraduate and graduate programs. His research group collaborates with institutions globally, including Columbia University and Lund University. Notable awards include the University of Basel’s Faculty Prize for Best Dissertation. His current projects include studies on digital mental health technology and the robustness of social science research.
