Dr. Arjan van Tilborg serves as a Lecturer in Educational Sciences at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences since September 2016, while concurrently working as an Educational Advisor/Trainer in the university's Educational Development & Training unit since September 2020. His dual roles focus on teacher professional development, honours education, and primary education initiatives.
Academically, he holds a Research Master's in Behavioural Sciences from Radboud University (2011) and completed his PhD at Utrecht University in 2018 with the dissertation 'Early Reading Learning in Children with Intellectual Disabilities'. His expertise spans intellectual disabilities, instructional design, reading acquisition, language development, and teacher training methodologies.
Dr. van Tilborg chaired the Educational Sciences/ALPO Committee from 2018 to 2024 and currently coordinates tutoring services for Educational Sciences students. His pedagogical approach emphasizes adapting instructional strategies for learners with mild to borderline intellectual disabilities, particularly in foundational reading skills development.
He actively supervises students and contributes to curriculum design, leveraging skills in educational coordination, research-based teaching, and student guidance across undergraduate and honours programs.
