Aris Terzopoulos

Dr Aris Terzopoulos is a Lecturer in Psychology at Birmingham City University’s School of Business, Law and Social Sciences and serves as the Course Leader for the MSc Psychology programme. He also leads the Lifespan Development Year 3 module and the Educational Psychology in Practice module within the MSc Applied Child Psychology course.

Research Interests

His research centres on how children acquire literacy skills, the cognitive and emotional challenges that bilingual children face when learning English as a second language, and evidence-based support strategies for children and adults with dyslexia. He has created specialised word databases for monolingual and bilingual learners and collaborates with schools and local dyslexia associations to translate psychological theory into practical, inclusive assessment and intervention tools.

Industry & Community Engagement

Dr Terzopoulos actively partners with teachers, special-needs coordinators, and dyslexia associations across the West Midlands and South-west England. Together they co-design teaching materials, intervention strategies, and professional-development resources that are both practical and grounded in current research.

Student Outcomes

Graduates of the MSc Psychology programme become Graduate Members of the British Psychological Society, enabling progression to chartered status or further study in areas such as Clinical, Counselling, Educational, Forensic, Occupational, or Health Psychology. Alumni have also moved into PhD research, school leadership roles, civil-service positions, and human-resources careers.
