Aris Mousoutzanis is a Principal Lecturer at the School of Art and Media, University of Brighton. His interdisciplinary research focuses on Media Studies, Film, Television, and English Literature, with a particular interest in apocalyptic fictions, late Victorian culture, media archaeology, and the intersection of media with trauma and biopolitics. His monograph Find-de-Siècle Fictions, 1890s-1990s: Apocalypse, Technoscience, Empire won the 2014 Science Fiction and Technoculture Studies Book of the Year Award.
He has organized academic initiatives such as the Film & Screen Studies Seminar Series and Annual Symposium, fostering collaborations with institutions like the London Consortium and Birkbeck. His current projects explore media and trauma, biopolitics, and neo-Victorian studies. Key roles include External Examiner for Kingston University’s BA Media & Communication program (2017–2021).
Research interests include the representation of imperialism in popular media, the biopolitical dimensions of science fiction, and the dynamics of nostalgia and utopian/dystopian discourses. He actively engages with interdisciplinary methodologies, blending literary, historical, and sociological perspectives.
Notable awards include the 2014 Science Fiction and Technoculture Studies Book of the Year Award. His recent work analyzes series like Humans and Taboo through biopolitical and postcolonial lenses, reflecting his commitment to critical cultural analysis.
