Arin Connell

Dr. Arin Connell is an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychology at Case Western Reserve University. Their work focuses on understanding the etiology of depression and anxiety in youth, translating developmental models into prevention programs, and applying quantitative methods for intervention research. They lead the FREY Study examining emotional regulation in adolescents, and the NEF Study on brain responses to emotional stimuli. Current projects include refining family-centered interventions like the Family Check-Up to reduce depression risks and improve long-term resilience.

Education: B.S., Pennsylvania State University; M.A. & Ph.D., Emory University; Postdoctoral training at University of Oregon.

Research employs multi-method approaches, including psychophysiological and neurobiological measures (EEG, ERP, heart-rate variability). Collaborations with Tom Dishion, Danny Shaw, and others focus on quantitative methods like latent growth modeling and mixture models. Advises graduate students Sarah Danzo, Glen Dawson, and Kelsey Magee.

Lab work emphasizes safe, comfortable recordings of autonomic and central nervous system processes in families. Studies explore links between family dynamics, emotional arousal, and psychosocial outcomes.
