Arif Babul is a Distinguished Professor in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Victoria, where he directs the Canadian Computational Cosmology Collaboration. His research focuses on cosmic structure formation, particularly the evolution of galaxy clusters and intragroup medium dynamics.
His work explores how dark matter halos form and evolve, the thermodynamic history of intracluster gas, and interactions between galaxies and their environments. This research combines high-resolution cosmological simulations with multiwavelength observational data.
Recent publications center on improving chemical enrichment models in galaxy simulations (SIMBA-C project), predicting gravitational wave signatures from supermassive black hole binaries, and characterizing X-ray emissions in galaxy groups. This work has advanced understanding of AGN feedback mechanisms and galaxy cluster evolution.
