Ariela Schachter is Associate Professor of Sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, serving as Department Associate Chair and Associate Director of the Weidenbaum Center. She holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University and specializes in immigration, race relations, and inequality.
Her research employs experimental methods and computational text analysis to study public attitudes toward immigrants, racial classification, and neighborhood inequality. Current NSF-funded projects investigate information inequalities in online rental housing markets.
Schachter has received prestigious awards including the Oliver Cox Cromwell Article Award (2022) and Louis Wirth Best Article Award (2017). Her work appears in leading journals such as American Sociological Review, PNAS, and Social Forces.
She teaches courses on immigration sociology and quantitative methods while mentoring graduate students in causal inference techniques. As Graduate Diversity Officer, she develops initiatives to support underrepresented scholars.
