Ariel Markelevich is a Professor of Accounting & Business Law at Suffolk University's Sawyer School of Business in Boston, MA. He joined Suffolk in 2009, focusing on graduate education. Dr. Markelevich holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Baruch College–CUNY and an M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance from Tel-Aviv University, Israel.
His research interests center on Artificial Intelligence (AI), ESG metrics, Blockchain applications, XBRL adoption, and Mergers & Acquisitions. Recent work explores AI's impact on auditing, XBRL's role in financial reporting transparency, and strategic implications of corporate acquisitions.
Dr. Markelevich's publications span journals like Accounting Horizons, Strategic Finance, and International Journal of Accounting. His articles are cited by regulatory bodies such as the SEC and FASB, emphasizing practical relevance. Notable contributions include analyzing XBRL's implementation challenges and forecasting AI's disruptive potential in accounting professions.
He has received a Teaching and Learning Innovation Grant (2011) and a Suffolk Research Award (2010). Active in professional service, he serves on the Board of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Research Foundation and XBRL US's Communication Steering Committee.
Markelevich teaches courses such as Cost and Managerial Accounting (ACCT 804) and International Accounting (ACIB 872). His work bridges academia and practice, addressing emerging technologies' ethical and operational challenges in finance and accounting.
