Arendse Wenzel Måge is a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. They hold a PhD candidate position and serve as an editor for Arr - Idéhistorisk tidsskrift. Their work focuses on the practice, philosophy, and political uses of history in Nordic and early modern contexts, particularly how scientific paradigms, religious beliefs, and political agendas shape historical narratives. Current research examines how 18th-century climate theories and Nordic ideas influenced historical usage and progress concepts in Denmark-Norway.
Education includes a Master of Arts (Aarhus University, 2022) with a thesis on Arngrímur Jónsson and Eggert Ólafsson's contributions to Icelandic linguistic debates, and a Bachelor of Arts (Aarhus University, 2020) analyzing Snorri Sturluson's Edda and national identity. Their interdisciplinary interests bridge history, environmental humanities, and intellectual history.
Publications include articles on cartography in medieval historiography and source critique in early modern contexts. They are part of the Nordic Enlightenment research group and contribute to scholarly discussions on temporality and environmental thought.
