April Wilson serves as an Associate Lecturer and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), bringing six years of community-based experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault to her full-time academic role.
Her educational background includes:
- BSW from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2011)
- MSW from Southern Adventist University (2013)
Professor Wilson specializes in trauma-informed approaches to domestic violence, with research interests spanning childhood trauma impacts, LGBTQ-inclusive services, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). She implements systems-based interventions for intimate partner violence in Chattanooga/Hamilton County and serves as a Building Strong Brains Trainer for Tennessee, educating communities on ACEs' neurological effects.
Her university service includes Faculty Senate Committee Chair (2024-present), Campus Wellness Advisory Council membership (2019-present), and leadership in Tevera implementation and student recruitment fairs. Community contributions feature the Shelter Best Practices Committee, Human Trafficking Coalition, and pioneering the LGBTQ Committee at a domestic violence program to improve queer-inclusive services.
Professor Wilson provides supplemental student supervision, co-facilitates poverty simulations, and develops training curricula on domestic violence 101, anti-bullying, and trauma-informed shelter practices while pursuing LCSW and RPT certifications to expand her clinical expertise.
