معرفی
April Rees is a Lecturer in Biochemistry and Immunology at Swansea University, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science. She holds a PhD from Swansea University Medical School (2022) and a BSc in Biochemistry (2017). Her research focuses on immunometabolic adaptations during pregnancy, monocyte function, and reproductive disorders like endometriosis and PCOS. She uses mass spectrometry and spectroscopy to identify blood-based biomarkers for clinical translation.
Teaching: She lectures in Genetics and Biochemistry BSc/MSci and Biomedical Sciences MSc programs, emphasizing immunology, biochemistry, and reproductive biology. She bridges classroom and lab teaching, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
Research Interests: Her work explores immunological changes in pregnancy, obesity's impact on immune systems, and novel diagnostics. Key areas include maternal immunometabolism, monocyte plasticity, and endometriosis mechanisms. She collaborates on projects like mitochondrial function in cancer and diabetes-related immunosuppression.
Grants/Projects: Current grants include studying endometriosis CD8 T cells (St David’s Medical Foundation), gestational diabetes immunometabolism (Diabetes UK), and endometriosis biomarkers (Impactober Fund). Past grants include mitochondrial function studies (RWIF Collaboration Booster) and pregnancy-COVID interactions (EPSRC).
Labs/Teams: Active in Swansea University Medical School’s Biomedical Sciences team, collaborating with groups like the Morgan Advanced Studies Institute (MASI) and the Health and Wellbeing Academy.
