April Klein

April Klein is Professor of Accounting and KPMG Faculty Fellow at New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business, where she has been a faculty member since 1987. She serves as Director of the Vincent C. Ross Institute of Accounting Research and is a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). She has held the WBS Distinguished Research Environment Professor position at Warwick Business School since 2012 and has taught at Columbia Law School, Baruch College, and Warwick Business School.

Her research focuses on corporate governance, hedge fund activism, ESG issues (including cyber risk and board diversity), equity analysts, and earnings management. She has published in top academic journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Accounting & Economics. Her work often intersects with regulatory frameworks and capital market implications.

The recent publications reflect a strong trajectory in corporate governance, regulatory policy, and shareholder activism, particularly examining how institutional structures like audit committees and hedge fund interventions impact firm outcomes. Her research increasingly incorporates ESG factors, especially in the context of board behavior and financial institution influence.

Professor Klein has served on the NASDAQ Listing and Hearing Review Council and is on the editorial boards of The Contemporary Accounting Research and The Accounting Review. She advises PhD students and contributes to policy-relevant research in accounting and governance. She co-teaches a joint MBA–Law School course in Financial Accounting and Finance, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach.

She is actively involved in research leadership through the Vincent C. Ross Institute of Accounting Research, fostering scholarly work in accounting and governance. Her collaborations span multiple institutions, including Warwick Business School and ECGI, supporting a global research network.
