Dr. Aoife Fitzpatrick is an Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology at Dublin City University (DCU). She completed her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at Bangor University under Dr. Ken Valyear, followed by postdoctoral research at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Rome. Aoife teaches Biological Psychology and Neuropsychology across multiple DCU Futures programs, including Psychology and Mathematics, and Psychology and Disruptive Technologies.
- Education: BSc in Psychology (Maynooth University), MSc in Foundations of Clinical Neuropsychology (Bangor University), PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience (Bangor University)
As a sensorimotor neuroscientist, Aoife investigates the neural mechanisms underlying action selection, focusing on sensorimotor transformations and the role of the posterior parietal cortex. Her research employs cross-species electrophysiological methods, fMRI, and computational modeling to understand hand choice and motor control.
Her recent publications explore topics like transcranial magnetic stimulation effects on hand choice, action history influences in motor decision-making, and the neural basis of interhemispheric competition. Aoife's work contributes to understanding healthy sensorimotor function and potential interventions for hand/arm impairments.
