Anver M. Emon is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Religion, Pluralism and the Rule of Law at the University of Toronto. He is cross-appointed to the Faculty of Law and the Department of History, where he contributes to both legal and historical scholarship. His work bridges Islamic law, legal history, and law and religion, with regional focus on the Medieval Mediterranean, Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.

Professor Emon has received prestigious accolades, including:
- 2014 Guggenheim Fellow in the field of Law
- 2017 Kitty Newman Memorial Award in Philosophy from the Royal Society of Canada
- 2023 Milner Memorial Award from the Canadian Associate of University Teachers
He serves as Director of the Institute of Islamic Studies at the University of Toronto and is the series editor of the Oxford Islamic Legal Studies Series. Additionally, he co-founded the journal Middle East Law and Governance: An Interdisciplinary Journal.
