Anuradha Prakash is a Professor of Food Science at Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science & Technology and a Science Advisor to the FDA Pacific Regional Lab-Southwest. She serves as an Associate Editor for Radiation Physics and Chemistry and specializes in phytosanitary irradiation to enhance food safety and shelf-life.
- Education: B.Sc. from University of Mumbai, M.Sc. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
Her research focuses on irradiation as a non-thermal technology for fresh-cut produce, ready-to-eat meals, and tree nuts. She evaluates irradiation’s impact on fruit texture, microbial safety, and physicochemical properties, aiming to reduce global trade barriers via pest disinfestation.
Recent publications span postharvest biology, food preservation, and comparative phytosanitary methods. Key studies include irradiation effects on grapes, peaches, and apples, alongside consumer acceptance of irradiated imports.
She has contributed to USDA-funded research and authored chapters in major food science texts like Food Irradiation Research and Technology and Postharvest Technology of Perishable Horticultural Commodities.
