Anupam Bishayee

Anupam Bishayee, Ph.D., serves as the Director of Research and Professor of Pharmacology at LECOM-Bradenton. With over 25 years of combined experience in biomedical and pharmaceutical education, research, teaching, and administration, Dr. Bishayee has established himself as a leading researcher in natural products and dietary agents for cancer prevention and treatment.

Dr. Bishayee received his Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.), Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm.), and Ph.D. (cancer prevention) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. He completed post-doctoral research on cancer cell biology and cancer therapy at Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey (formerly University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey) and earned a fellowship in Academic Medicine from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED, Rootstown, Ohio).

Dr. Bishayee's primary research encompasses natural products and dietary agents in health and disease, with a focus on investigating cancer preventive and therapeutic effects of medicinal plants, natural products, dietary and synthetic agents using various preclinical models. His work spans multiple domains including cancer cell biology, molecular mechanisms of action, and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) for inflammatory conditions.

His publication record shows a strong emphasis on plant-based cancer prevention strategies, with recent articles focusing on specific botanicals like papaya, mangosteen, guava, lotus, and sulforaphane from broccoli. These publications reveal a consistent research trajectory examining the molecular mechanisms by which natural compounds affect cancer pathways including PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and arachidonic acid pathways.
