Anup Gampa is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvey Mudd College (HMC), part of the Claremont Colleges. He holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Virginia (2018). His academic focus bridges social psychology with engineering and social sciences, emphasizing critical examination of systemic issues like racism, capitalism, and social movements.
Research interests include analyzing how social movements influence implicit attitudes toward marginalized groups, interrogating capitalism's role in social psychology research, and investigating societal justifications for economic systems. He advocates for an emancipatory approach in social psychology, challenging neoliberal paradigms.
His work spans replicability in social science experiments, ideological effects on reasoning, and labor alienation dynamics. Recent publications (2023) emphasize transformative research methodologies and the impact of movements like Black Lives Matter on racial attitudes. Earlier studies (2018–2015) address replicability challenges in psychological science and behavioral comparisons in therapeutic communities.
Gampa actively engages in academic activism, having organized against systemic racism and sexism during his PhD. His teaching philosophy prioritizes empowering students to critically engage with societal structures, aligning with HMC's interdisciplinary ethos.
