Anu Veenre is a Lecturer in Musicology at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre since 2015. She holds a Master's Degree (2009) and is pursuing a PhD at the same institution, with a guest doctoral study period at Washington University in St. Louis (2014). Her career spans roles as Research Assistant, Junior Research Fellow, and Music History Teacher at various Estonian institutions.
Research interests include 20th-century music, Soviet-era musical identities, folk music revival, and the performative aspects of music. She has contributed to projects like Performative aspects of music (2013-2018) and Estonian music culture (2007-2012), focusing on historical formation and contemporary development.
Veenre has published five key works, including articles on polystylism in late-Soviet Estonia, collaborative composition in Malera Kasuku's piano trio, and folk music revival under Soviet rule. Her research often intersects cultural identity, historical context, and musical analysis.
She actively participates in international conferences (e.g., Musics, Cultures, Identities in Rome 2012, Music as Protest in Ljubljana 2014) and has organized events like the Urban Musical Life conference (2015). Her additional roles include program annotations for the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and co-authoring entries in the TEA Encyclopedia.
