Professor Anu Valtonen is affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Lapland. Her research focuses on the Anthropocene, sustainable naturecultures, and multispecies futures, with a strong emphasis on ethnographic methods and feminist perspectives. She has led/co-investigated projects like 'Envisioning Proximity Tourism with New Materialism' (2019-2023) and 'HalLa: Growing High-Level Intellectual Capital in Lapland' (2015-2018). Her work bridges organizational studies, tourism, and cultural analysis, addressing topics like sleep's sociocultural dimensions, human-nonhuman relations, and sustainable practices. She received the 2014 Tiedepalkinto award for her research group's contributions to sleep's cultural significance in organizational and tourism contexts. Key areas include curiography, proximity tourism, and affective organizational practices. Her activities include organizing workshops on ethnographic methods and presenting at international conferences. She contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues on ethics, embodiment, and environmental stewardship.
