Anu Singh-Cundy is an Associate Professor in the Biology Department at Western Washington University, part of the College of Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on plant cell biology, specifically pollen-pistil interactions, extracellular matrix biochemistry, and the recovery of native pollinators in the Pacific Northwest. She holds a PhD from Cornell University and conducted postdoctoral research at Penn State University.
- Education:
- B.Sc./M.Sc., Delhi University (1982)
- Ph.D., Plant Biology, Cornell University (1988)
- Postdoctoral training at Penn State University (1988–1993)
- Professional Experience:
- Associate Professor, WWU (2003–present)
- Assistant Professor, WWU (1996–2003)
Her research interests combine molecular studies of plant reproduction with ecological investigations of native pollinators, particularly the recovery of Bombus occidentalis and threats posed by invasive species like Bombus impatiens. She has advised numerous graduate and undergraduate students in these areas.
Publications highlight her work on HD-AGP proteins' roles in speciation, pollen tube growth mechanisms, and plant defense proteins. Her lab's work bridges cell biology and ecology, contributing to both fundamental plant science and conservation efforts.
